Former Formula 1 driver Martin Brundle has voiced strong support for Lewis Hamilton's ability to win a world championship with Ferrari in 2026. Ferrari sits second in the constructors' standings after a solid start to the season, with Hamilton fourth and teammate Charles Leclerc third in the drivers' rankings. Brundle highlighted how the new regulations better suit Hamilton's style.
Martin Brundle, a former Formula 1 driver and Sky Sports analyst, stated that seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton remains capable of securing victories with Ferrari. Hamilton transitioned to the Italian team in 2025, where adaptation proved challenging amid the final year of ground-effect regulations, leaving Ferrari fourth in constructors. This year, however, Ferrari has improved markedly, positioning second overall as the season approaches its fourth round, the Miami Grand Prix. Hamilton and Charles Leclerc occupy fourth and third places in the drivers' standings, respectively. Brundle noted that the current cars align better with Hamilton's preferences compared to the previous era's demanding ground-effect machines. 'Lewis clearly enjoys these cars much more,' Brundle told Sky Sports F1. 'Ferrari is more competitive... Lewis obviously prefers this type of car to the seasons we had with the ground effect cars.' He emphasized Hamilton's need to outperform Leclerc and others, adding, 'If there's a sniff of a victory, I think Lewis is still very much capable of taking that.' Ahead of Miami, Mercedes leads with Kimi Antonelli topping the drivers' standings, nine points ahead of teammate George Russell after dominating the first three rounds. Brundle described the championship as 'totally wide open,' predicting shifts from upgrades among the top four teams.
