Grammy-winning singer Laufey released the music video for her single 'Madwoman' on April 13, featuring an all-Asian and Asian American cast including Hudson Williams, Alysa Liu, Lola Tung and Megan Skiendiel of KATSEYE. The Slim Aarons-inspired clip emphasizes representation in music and media. It arrives shortly after Laufey's Coachella debut where she performed the track live.
Laufey, the Icelandic-Chinese artist behind the Grammy-winning album A Matter of Time, dropped the video for 'Madwoman' from its deluxe edition, A Matter of Time: The Final Hour. Directed by Warren Fu, with production designer Evaline Wu Huang and cinematographer Andrew Truong, the video was filmed in Los Angeles weeks before Laufey's full-set Coachella performance on April 11 and 12. It draws on 1960s aesthetics, including references to Slim Aarons and Mad Men opening credits recreated by Hudson Williams as Laufey's love interest. Alysa Liu, Olympic gold medal figure skater, Lola Tung from The Summer I Turned Pretty, and Megan Skiendiel portray her friends in bright retro outfits during a pool party at a mansion, transitioning to a tense nighttime engagement scene where Laufey attempts an eerie escape thwarted by her frozen friends and Williams.
