President Lee Jae Myung expressed hope Friday that South Korea and Italy will work together to promote global free trade and multilateralism during talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome. It marked the leaders' second meeting this year after their January encounter in Seoul.
A day earlier Lee and Italian President Sergio Mattarella agreed to elevate bilateral ties to a special strategic partnership and expand cooperation in semiconductors, AI and other areas. The two sides also signed four memorandums of understanding covering advanced science, technology and joint projects in Africa.
At a business roundtable Lee described the countries as optimal partners for building a new industrial order. Thirty business leaders from both nations, including Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong, attended to discuss cooperation in AI, energy and future-oriented sectors.
