Lewis Pullman has been cast in the lead role of the upcoming coming-of-age motocross drama Ragamuffin. The project marks the feature directorial debut of Kaitlyn Mikayla and is based on her award-winning short film. Pre-production and financing are now underway.
The film follows Mad Mike, played by Pullman, and his 14-year-old daughter as she pursues her dream of becoming a motocross champion during a summer tournament. Mikayla, who drew from her own experiences in the sport for the story, described Pullman as bringing rare emotional depth to the role.
David Permut is producing through his Permut Presentations banner alongside Alex Astrachan. The short film that inspired the project was executive produced by Jason Reitman and received honors including Kodak Best Shot on Film at HollyShorts.
Pullman, known for roles in Top Gun: Maverick and Thunderbolts*, is repped by CAA and Anonymous Content. Mikayla is repped by WME and Kaplane/Perrone Entertainment.
