Cebu City officials are seeking permanent revocation of the driver's license after an SUV hit and injured a traffic enforcer on duty.
On July 1 at around 8:30 a.m., traffic enforcer Jovanne Verano was struck by an Isuzu MU-X at the intersection of Escario Street and Osmeña Boulevard in Barangay Capitol Site. CCTV showed the SUV stopping initially before accelerating as Verano turned, causing him to fall and the wheel to run over his left hand.
Vice Mayor Tomas Osmeña said the city is coordinating with the Land Transportation Office to seek permanent revocation of the driver's license, in addition to criminal charges being prepared. The driver, a retired engineer from Toledo City, remains in custody of the Traffic Enforcement Unit.
Authorities plan to file direct assault with attempted homicide instead of the initially considered reckless imprudence. Verano suffered fractures in three bones of his left ring finger and a torn fingernail, and remains under medical observation.
