AEW National Champion Mark Davis is scheduled to defend his title against Andrade El Idolo at the Redemption pay-per-view on July 26 in Montreal. Andrade earned the opportunity by defeating Jake Doyle on the July 15 edition of AEW Dynamite.
Andrade secured the title shot after a hard-hitting singles match against Jake Doyle. He won cleanly with the Dia De Los Muertos followed by the DM. Don Callis had promised Andrade the opportunity if he defeated Doyle at Beach Break the previous week.
In a backstage interview with Renee Paquette, Andrade stated he possessed MJF's Dynamite Diamond Ring, possibly given by Will Ospreay. He added that he would beat every member of the Don Callis Family to pursue the AEW World Championship.
Mark Davis confronted Andrade after the match, setting up their first singles pay-per-view bout. This marks Andrade's first singles PPV appearance since Dynasty and Davis's first singles PPV match in AEW.
The event takes place at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
