Marlaska places Leire Díez plot outside Interior and backs Mercedes González

Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska appeared in the Senate today to defend the Guardia Civil director's actions in the Leire Díez case.

During his appearance in the Koldo commission, Marlaska stated that the plot involving former PSOE member Leire Díez originated outside the Interior Ministry. He asserted that no one from the ministry is connected to it.

Marlaska backed Mercedes González and repeated that she informed him of a meeting with Díez on 29 May 2025, in which she requested the rehabilitation of commander Rubén Villalba. González refused, according to the minister.

The minister denied giving instructions to stop investigating facts and said he is convinced no one from the ministry acted improperly. He also informed President Pedro Sánchez of his meeting with the UCO on 30 May 2025.
