A judge in Veracruz sentenced Marlon Botas Fuentes to 70 years in prison for the feminicide of Monserrat Bendimes Roldán, the maximum penalty under the state penal code.
The sentence was handed down on July 16 in oral trial 47/2024 by Judge Rubén Adrián Romero Maldonado. Botas Fuentes received the sentence via videoconference from the Centro de Readaptación Social de Tuxpan.
The incident occurred on April 17, 2021, in Boca del Río, where Botas physically assaulted Bendimes. She died on November 2, 2021, from injuries to the head and neck.
Cecilia Roldán, the victim’s mother, stated: “Se hizo justicia para mi hija”. The judge also ordered the suspension of civil and political rights, reeducation measures, and payment of damages.
Botas’s detention since 2022 will count toward the sentence, so his release is scheduled for June 9, 2092.
