Chihuahua governor Maru Campos will appear before the Fiscalía General de la República on Wednesday, May 27 in Ciudad Juárez. Her team confirmed she will attend despite holding constitutional immunity. Her lawyer announced a criminal complaint against those responsible for the citation.
Santiago de la Peña, Chihuahua government secretary, stated that Campos will attend in person at 10:00 hours. He noted that her legal team is evaluating whether the appearance will be in writing or in person. Campos retains her immunity, which protects her from detention and allows her to skip the hearing, but she chose to face the process.
Roberto Gil Zuarth, the governor’s lawyer, pointed out that the citation establishes no specific questions and requests no information. He said the document invokes legal grounds for accused persons while summoning her as a witness. Gil Zuarth announced a criminal complaint under article 125 of the Federal Penal Code for violating constitutional procedure.
The National Action Party backed Campos and described the citation as political persecution driven by Morena. National PAN leader Jorge Romero Herrera called on citizens to express indignation and announced future actions in defense of the governor.
