The Fiscalía General de la República issued summons for the sitting governors of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, and Chihuahua, Maru Campos, to appear as witnesses in ongoing investigations.
The summons were delivered this weekend. Rocha Moya and nine other Sinaloa officials must appear in connection with United States accusations of alleged ties to Los Chapitos of the Cártel de Sinaloa.
Maru Campos was summoned over an operation in the Sierra del Pinal on April 17 and 18 in which CIA agents participated. She stated that it amounts to political persecution and that she will appear on Wednesday, May 27, at 10:00 a.m.
President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo said the summons have no political overtones and correspond to Fiscalía procedures. The FGR clarified that those summoned will appear as witnesses and will not be detained.
PAN and PRI leaders backed Campos and accused the federal government of political persecution. Rocha Moya said he will attend the summons with his head held high.
