Over 400 competitors crossed the finish line at the 42nd annual Reino Keski-Salmi Loppet held at Larch Hills on January 17, 2026. The event featured distances from 1 to 32 kilometers under favorable winter conditions at the higher elevation site. The Reino Keski-Salmi Loppet, organized by the Larch Hills Nordic Ski Club, drew participants from various clubs to the trails near Salmon Arm, British Columbia. Despite scant snow in the nearby town on the morning of January 17, 2026, the event site offered groomed courses and typical winter weather, thanks to its 600-meter higher elevation.
Competitors tackled routes of 1, 2, 5, 10, 17, or 32 kilometers. In the longest distance, a single 32-kilometer lap, Ian Williams claimed the top male time of 1:30:25.1, while Caitlin Gregg led the females at 1:48:15.5. Local standouts from Larch Hills included Thomas Hardy, with 1:36:57.3 for the men, and Maggie Beckner, at 1:52:46.9 for the women.
Younger and older skiers alike participated, including an 80-year-old competitor Jim Gregg from Methow Nordic in the 17-kilometer race. Images captured mass starts, individual efforts, and finish-line moments, featuring athletes from clubs such as Sovereign Lake Nordic, Telemark Nordic, and Larch Hills itself.
