Muhammadiyah's 113th anniversary transforms progressive islam

Muhammadiyah will celebrate its 113th anniversary on November 18, 2025, at Universitas Muhammadiyah Bandung. The event serves as a manifesto for the enlightenment movement in the 21st century, transforming progressive Islam toward an ecosystemic ummah. It addresses the digital technology revolution and crises in humanity, spirituality, and ecology.

Muhammadiyah's 113th anniversary is more than an annual celebration; it marks the enlightenment movement (tanwir) in the 21st-century context. This era features a digital technology revolution creating a hyperconnected world, shifting from a competition worldview to an ecosystem one, emphasizing collaboration, synergy, and sustainability. Spiritually, it prioritizes cosmocentric awareness over egocentric or ethnocentric views, with mutualistic social relations balancing profit, people, and planet.

Key challenges include evil conspiracies, manipulation by elites, and digital fraud risks like online loans and gambling. The revolution has birthed Society 5.0, a super-smart society integrating AI and robotics for inclusive, sustainable humanity. Progressive Islam's rationale, as dîn al-hadhârah, addresses e-commerce ethics, electronic money including cryptocurrency, and AI ethics in robotics for public services to warfare.

The transformation integrates epistemic aspects—synthesis of bayani, burhani, and irfani rationales with ecosystemic maqashid—and theological-ethical foundations via tauhidi reason. It promotes unity of Godhead ("Laa ilaaha illa Allah", QS al-Hajj: 62), mankind (QS an-Nisa: 1), creation (QS Al-Mulk: 3), life guidance (QS al-Alaq: 1-5; QS an-Nahl: 89), and purpose. This reaffirmation forms the crucial basis for strategic actions building an ecosystemic ummah, tackling national civilizational issues in the digital age.
