Motorists in Nairobi face widespread road closures this weekend due to the 2026 Nairobi City Marathon. The event will affect the Nairobi Expressway and Central Business District routes from Saturday night through Sunday afternoon.
Organisers announced that road closures will begin at midnight on Sunday, June 7. The marathon starts at City Hall at 6:45am and concludes at 2pm, with traffic expected to resume fully between 2pm and 4pm. Key routes including the Nairobi Expressway from James Gichuru to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport will close in both directions from Saturday 10pm until Sunday 3pm. Additional closures will impact Uhuru Highway, Kenyatta Avenue, Moi Avenue, Haile Selassie Avenue, City Hall Way, University Way, and several streets in the Central Business District. The event is set to draw over 17,000 participants. Organisers have advised drivers to plan alternative routes and follow instructions from traffic marshals to maintain safety during the race.
