Netflix has announced a September release date for its new competition series Wonka's The Golden Ticket, which will feature a recreated voice of Gene Wilder.
The series, inspired by Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, will premiere on September 23 with the first seven episodes. The final two episodes are set to air on September 30.
It will include a nod to the 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory by using Wilder's recreated voice, with approval from his estate. Rusty Goffe, who appeared as an Oompa Loompa in the original movie, will reprise his role.
Twelve pairs of contestants will compete inside a recreation of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. They must navigate games and tests to win a life-changing prize.
Karen B. Wilder, on behalf of the Gene Wilder Estate, issued a statement supporting the project. A teaser featuring the voice has also been released.
