A replacement crew member serving as captain on the detained tanker Sea Owl 1 has been arrested on suspicion of using false documents, Swedish authorities announced on Friday.
The Coast Guard said a new captain on board Sea Owl 1 was detained after presenting an insurance number from a falsified document. The vessel has remained under a ban on use outside Trelleborg since it was boarded on March 12 during operation Strix.
Earlier in the probe the original Russian master was arrested but later released. The ship, recently reflagged to Cameroon in a move also deemed invalid, is linked to Russian oil exports that breach EU sanctions and is listed as owned by a Marshall Islands company.
This latest arrest continues Sweden’s actions against Russia’s shadow fleet, which already include the boarding of several other vessels off Trelleborg.
