Mónica Oltra gathered over 2,000 people at her first open rally as candidate for mayor of Valencia, joined by Gabriel Rufián, two weeks before her formal ratification by Compromís.
The event took place on Friday at the amphitheater of Parque de Cabecera. Oltra and Rufián discussed the need for unity among left-wing forces ahead of the 2027 local elections.
Oltra stated that “if New York can, València can too” and noted the tight margin between blocs in the city. She invited Esquerra Unida, Podemos, Sumar and Esquerra Republicana to the July 4 assembly.
Rufián clarified he would lead a left-wing front in Catalunya with ERC as the driving force and proposed primaries province by province for joint lists. Oltra replied that the unified candidacy in Valencia is “almost done”.
More than 700 people filled the seats and as many again stood. Among those present were Joan Baldoví, Joan Ribó and representatives of IU-Sumar and trade unions.
