At 17:02 on April 29, 2025, everything changed in Uppsala. A masked man armed with two pistols opened fire outside a hair salon at Vaksala torg and then entered to execute three young victims aged 15, 16, and 20. The incident occurred amid final preparations for Valborg celebrations the next day, shocking the city.
Police halted all public transport, and phones rang constantly for spokesperson Magnus Jansson Klarin from media outlets worldwide. Jonas Ekebacke, Valborg coordinator for Uppsala municipality, described it as "a very difficult balance to celebrate while making it dignified".
