Mexican authorities seized over two tons of cocaine in a maritime operation 190 kilometers from Salina Cruz, Oaxaca. The operation, with no arrests, deals a 4.3 million peso blow to organized crime. During Claudia Sheinbaum's administration so far, 65 tons have been confiscated.
The federal Security Cabinet reported that Navy personnel detected 68 bundles containing 2,155 packages of white powder resembling cocaine, weighing 2.145 tons, in the Gulf of Tehuantepec, southern Pacific.
The load, packed in black bags, was turned over to competent authorities for investigation, with no arrests reported. This action prevents millions of doses from reaching the streets and involved the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection and the Mexican Navy.
Since October 2024, under President Claudia Sheinbaum, the Navy has seized 65 tons of cocaine at high sea as part of efforts against organized crime, amid U.S. pressure on counternarcotics.
On April 27, authorities intercepted another vessel with nearly one ton of cocaine and detained six foreigners 120 kilometers northwest of Puerto de Chiapas.
