Past winners of the Student of the Year Awards gathered in Hong Kong on Saturday for the scheme’s 45th anniversary, where 40 students received top honours and organisers announced plans to expand the awards.
The event ran under the theme “Leadership in Action: Shaping the Possible” and drew a record 900-plus nominations from 181 schools.
1985 grand prize winner Dr Chan Mui-tong, now a 59-year-old surgeon, told attendees that each new group of winners had surpassed those before them.
Organisers said a new category for AI literacy will be added next year, along with efforts to recognise excellence beyond Hong Kong.
