Penguins defeat Golden Knights 5-0 with Silovs' shutout

The Pittsburgh Penguins secured a 5-0 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights on March 1, 2026, at PPG Paints Arena, extending their point streak to five games. Arturs Silovs recorded his second NHL shutout with 22 saves, while Vegas captain Mark Stone left the game with an upper-body injury. Pittsburgh scored three goals in the second period to pull away.

Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Arturs Silovs made 22 saves to earn his second career NHL shutout, leading his team to a 5-0 win against the Vegas Golden Knights at PPG Paints Arena on Sunday. The Penguins, now 31-15-13, improved to 3-0-2 in their last five games and have earned points in 10 of their past 15 contests since January 13, despite a 3-2 shootout loss to the New York Rangers the previous night.

Bryan Rust, Ben Kindel and Justin Brazeau each scored a goal and added an assist for Pittsburgh, with Erik Karlsson providing two assists. Kindel opened the scoring at 14:56 of the first period with his 15th goal of his rookie season, driving to the slot for a wrist shot. In the second period, Egor Chinakhov made it 2-0 at 5:47 with a wrist shot shortly after a power play ended, followed by Rust's power-play goal at 9:34 to reach 20 goals for the seventh straight season. Rickard Rakell extended the lead to 4-0 at 15:06 on another power-play tally, deflecting Karlsson's shot with his skate before wrapping it around Vegas goalie Adin Hill. Brazeau capped the scoring with a wrist shot at 14:59 of the third period.

"I think it's always a team effort," Silovs said. "There’s a lot of second, third efforts from the guys -- battling, fighting, getting the blocks that we need. Felt pretty comfortable in the crease."

Vegas, falling to 28-18-14, has lost two of three games to open a five-game road trip. Adin Hill stopped 17 shots in the loss. Golden Knights coach Bruce Cassidy expressed concern over the defensive lapses: "Five goals against. We didn’t score. That is a concern to me. It’s too many against. Have to score too many goals to win."

Captain Mark Stone exited after a check to his left arm from Penguins defenseman Kris Letang late in the first period. Cassidy noted Stone would travel with the team to Buffalo, with an update expected the next day. Vegas forward Reilly Smith highlighted execution issues: "I think we just had poor execution all game long. Obviously, our penalty kill has been pretty good for us and that wasn’t good enough tonight."

The Penguins allowed Vegas two power-play goals on four chances, contrasting their recent strong penalty kill. Pittsburgh has scored 73 goals from players in their first season with the team, the most in the NHL. Vegas has been outscored 9-1 in the first and second periods across their first three post-Olympic games. Karlsson reached 908 career points, tying Scott Stevens for 13th among defensemen in league history. Vegas forward Mitch Marner's six-game point streak ended.

The Golden Knights next face the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday at 4 p.m. PT.
