Following his party's landslide victory in the April 12 election, Péter Magyar is set to take office as Hungary's prime minister on May 9.
Magyar, who split from Viktor Orbán's Fidesz party in February 2024, led the Tisza Party to 53 percent of the vote and 141 of 199 parliamentary seats. This supermajority enables constitutional changes. A large public celebration is planned in Budapest's Kossuth Square to mark both the inauguration and the party's entry into parliament.
