Actor Peter Sarsgaard has been cast in the third season of HBO's The Last of Us adaptation. He will portray Amon, a new character who leads the Seraphites cult.
Sarsgaard joins the series as it shifts focus to Abby's storyline set in Seattle. The season introduces several new characters from the games, including Patrick Gibson as Jerry along with Michelle Mao and Kyriana Kratter as Yara and Lev.
The Seraphites, a religious group based in Seattle, are expected to play a larger role after appearing in season two. Filming has been paused in Vancouver during the World Cup.
Neil Druckmann has stepped back from the series after season two to concentrate on other projects at Naughty Dog. HBO chief Casey Bloys stated that Druckmann provided a solid foundation for the show to continue without him.
The third season is anticipated to conclude the adaptation though no release date has been announced.
