Police officer Marjori Bosibori, aged 42, has died from a gunshot wound to the chest inside the communication room at Kisii Central Police Station.
Bosibori reported to work on Tuesday after a short break at home. Colleagues described him as calm and noted that he had lunch with them. Less than 24 hours later he was found dead inside the room.
Kisii Central Police Commander Musa Imamai said the officer went toward the toilet after arriving at the station in the evening. Investigators broke the door open the next morning and found him seated on a chair with a gunshot wound to the chest and an AK-47 rifle nearby.
Police are investigating the possibility of suicide. His body was moved to the mortuary at Kisii Referral and Teaching Hospital for further examination. Imamai said there are no leads yet on what may have caused the incident.
