The ethics committee of South Korea's main opposition People Power Party launched a disciplinary process on July 27 for three lawmakers accused of harming the party.
The committee said it decided to begin proceedings against six-term Rep. Cho Kyoung-tae for allegedly calling lawmakers from other parties to block Rep. Park Duk-hyum from becoming deputy National Assembly speaker.
First-term Rep. Jin Jong-oh was reported for backing independent candidate Han Dong-hoon in a Busan parliamentary seat before the June 3 local elections, despite the PPP fielding its own candidate.
Rep. Kwon Young-jin faces action over an alleged physical clash with floor leader Jeong Jeom-sig last week during protests over committee assignments. Kwon reportedly shouted at Jeong and grabbed him by the collar.
The party's supreme council agreed to ask Kwon to voluntarily leave and seek expulsion if he refuses. Jeong said he would put past grievances behind him and focus on his duties.
