President Lee Jae Myung is set to unveil large-scale investment plans on Monday for semiconductors, physical AI and AI data centers, including a new chip cluster.
The presidential office said the briefing will take place at 2 p.m. Monday at Cheong Wa Dae. Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong and SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won are expected to attend and announce major investments.
The plans could total up to 1 quadrillion won ($650 billion) over 10 years, with a possible semiconductor cluster in the southwestern Honam region. Projects may also cover the central Chungcheong and southeastern Yeongnam regions.
The opposition People Power Party called the move politically motivated. Finance Minister Koo Yun-cheol pledged full government support for regional investments, including electricity and water supplies.
