Two low-intensity blasts near security sites in Jalandhar and Amritsar on May 5 triggered political accusations in Punjab. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann blamed the BJP while the state police pointed to Pakistan’s ISI.
Punjab was shaken by explosions on Tuesday night. The first occurred around 8 pm outside the Border Security Force headquarters in Jalandhar. The second took place three hours later near an Army camp in Khasa village, Amritsar.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann accused the BJP of engineering the incidents to create fear ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. He said such acts were the party’s usual method before polls. Opposition leaders from Congress and the Shiromani Akali Dal called the remarks immature and an attempt to deflect attention from law-and-order issues.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav described both blasts as low-intensity and linked them to the anniversary of Operation Sindoor. He said the Amritsar incident appeared to be the work of Pakistan’s ISI and noted that a group calling itself the Khalistan Liberation Army had claimed responsibility for the Jalandhar blast, though he called the outfit non-existent. Forensic probes and CCTV analysis are under way with no casualties reported.
