The Boston Red Sox beat the New York Yankees 4-1 on June 27 at Fenway Park. Rookie left-hander Jake Bennett limited the Yankees to three hits over 6 1/3 innings.
Masataka Yoshida opened the scoring with a leadoff home run on Gerrit Cole’s second pitch. Anthony Seigler added his first major-league homer in the second inning.
Cole allowed four runs in 5 1/3 innings and took the loss for the second straight start. He retired eight of the next 10 batters after the third inning.
Manager Aaron Boone said Cole became more aggressive later in the outing. Yankees hitters managed only one run on Max Schuemann’s solo homer.
The Red Sox extended their winning streak to three games and will try for a four-game sweep on Sunday Night Baseball.
