The Government of the State of Mexico has announced a significant reduction in vehicle verification fees starting in 2026, approved in the fiscal package by local deputies. This measure aims to ease the economic burden on motorists in an entity with nearly 10 million vehicles. However, the fine for non-compliance will rise to 3,394 pesos.
The State of Mexico, which according to INEGI data has 9.9 million motor vehicles in 2025—including 7.1 million private vehicles, 49,855 passenger buses, 1.5 million trucks and vans, and 1.2 million motorcycles—has seen substantial growth in its vehicle fleet since 1985, when it only registered 633,000 units.
Governor Delfina Gómez included these reforms in the 2026 fiscal package, approved by local deputies. The fees are adjusted as follows: hologram 00 drops from 1,131 pesos to 630 pesos; hologram 0, from 566 to 152 pesos; and holograms 1 and 2, from 453 to 152 pesos. Additionally, two new categories are added: the 'Exempt Voluntary' hologram at 630 pesos and the 'Rejection' at 39 pesos, aimed at electric, hybrid, or collectible vehicles that owners choose to verify voluntarily to prove environmental compliance.
To complete the process at citaverificacion.edomex.gob.mx, drivers must present a valid official ID such as the INE, proof of address no older than three months (water, electricity, or landline phone bill), evidence of the last verification, and no outstanding debts for verification, vehicle ownership tax, or traffic fines.
This initiative offers relief to millions of residents in the State of Mexico, though it remains the federation's entity with the most motor vehicles, closely followed by Mexico City in vehicle density.
