Despite the blockade by Junts and the loss of key partners, Sánchez insists on continuing his roadmap without calling elections. Meanwhile, he calls for elections in the Valencian Community due to the crisis following Carlos Mazón's resignation.
Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, in a press appearance in Belém (Brazil) during COP30, has defended his management amid budgetary paralysis. "With new budgets or not, Spain will advance and the Government will continue with its roadmap," the president stated, downplaying the impact of failing to approve Public Accounts for the entire legislature. He recalls that his Government has executed more European funds than any other, driving economic growth and modernization of the productive fabric.
The blockade stems from Junts, led by Carles Puigdemont, rejecting all initiatives not previously agreed upon, certifying the failure of the budgets. In two years, the Executive has lost two key partners: Junts (seven seats) and Podemos (four), totaling eleven votes that can invalidate measures in Congress. This affects at least six laws in process needed for European funds, such as the Industry Law, Families Law, or Equity, Universality and Cohesion Law of the National Health System.
Sánchez insists on presenting the budgets to Congress, though he knows they will be rejected, without specifying a date. He clings to positive data: "Spain is living one of its best moments in the last 45 years," with economic growth, job creation, inequality reduction, international projection, and social peace. He avoids calling national elections but demands them in the Valencian Community, criticizing the "denialist" PP-Vox majority for weakening the response to the climate emergency after Mazón's resignation.
Sánchez's strategy aims to normalize the exceptional, akin to his phrase "make a virtue of necessity" during the Amnesty Law, and warn against the far-right to hold his partners together.
