Service on Santiago's Metro Line 5 was restored on Saturday after an interruption caused by smoke at three stations. The incident was reported after 11 a.m. and resolved around 12:45 p.m.
Metro de Santiago confirmed the normalization of Line 5 service at 12:47 p.m. on Saturday through its social media accounts. The company stated that “the Line 5 service is normalizing from this moment” and that the entire network became operational.
The interruption affected the stations Lo Prado, Blanqueado and Grutas de Lourdes. A smoke leak from outside caused a power outage between Gruta de Lourdes and Barrancas due to an electric arc.
According to Metro, the operational safety protocol was activated and a train was evacuated at Gruta de Lourdes station. No passengers were reported injured. Service restoration and water situation control occurred around 12:50 p.m.
