A shooting at the entrance to São Bento metro station in São Paulo left five people injured on Saturday, including an 11-month-old baby. The incident occurred after three suspects tried to rob an off-duty civil police officer.
The confrontation took place on Saturday afternoon, May 30, 2026, at Ladeira Porto Geral near Rua 25 de Março. The officer reacted to the approach and exchanged gunfire with the criminals. One suspect was shot, detained and later received medical discharge, while the other two fled into the station.
Among the victims are the baby, grazed on the knee, his 30-year-old father with wounds to the arm, abdomen and thigh, plus two other people. All were assisted and taken to local hospitals. Delegate Tom Blumer stated that the victims appear to be fine.
Service on the 1-blue line was halted for 45 minutes due to an unconfirmed report of a person on the tracks. The metro resumed normal operation around 1 p.m. The Civil Police are investigating the case and searching for the fugitives.
