The German national football team underwent a security check in Winston-Salem before departing for their first World Cup match. Manuel Neuer and Jamal Musiala were among the players inspected directly on the tarmac.
The check took place at Smith Reynolds Airport, the site of the DFB base camp. Players including Joshua Kimmich bypassed the terminal building and were taken directly to the aircraft.
Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer sat on a chair during the inspection. Jamal Musiala was scanned with a detector while the team's silver suitcases were examined by security.
The procedure follows FIFA protocol for the World Cup, the German Football Association stated. The flight to the match against Curaçao this evening at 19.00 is organized by FIFA and will be broadcast on ARD and MagentaTV.
