The Senate, acting as an impeachment court, has ordered Vice President Sara Duterte to appear at her trial, which opens on Monday, July 6.
The notice, signed by Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian on July 2, directs Duterte to appear in person or through counsel at the Senate Session Hall in Pasay City at 2 p.m.
Duterte was impeached by the House of Representatives on May 11 over alleged misuse of public funds, amassing unexplained wealth, bribery involving Department of Education officials, and assassination threats against President Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and Speaker Martin Romualdez.
The Senate has completed security preparations with the Philippine National Police, which plans to deploy around 6,000 officers. The defense has not sought any postponement of the trial.
Senators held a caucus on Friday to discuss the impeachment proceedings.
