After initially advancing the 2025-2026 school year end to June 5, the Ministry of Public Education has reversed course and will keep the original calendar, with classes ending July 15, 2026.
The Ministry of Public Education (SEP) and state education authorities decided to preserve the originally planned 185 class days. The school year will end on July 15, 2026, as established on June 9, 2025.
“This determination prioritizes the superior right of girls, boys and adolescents to an integral education,” the SEP explained in a statement. Campeche Education Secretary Víctor Manuel Sarmiento confirmed the agreement after a five-hour meeting of the National Council of Education Authorities.
SEP head Mario Delgado noted that the return to the original calendar responded to a call from President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. The government will keep flexibility for regional cases, such as high temperatures or 2026 World Cup logistics, always under the General Education Law.
