The State of Mexico, Veracruz, Jalisco and Campeche will suspend classes on Thursday, June 11, due to the opening of the 2026 World Cup in Mexico City.
The Education Secretariat of the State of Mexico announced that 4.3 million students at all levels will not have classes on June 11. Activities will resume on Friday, June 12. The measure aims to facilitate mobility in the Mexico City metropolitan area during the tournament’s opening day. Veracruz Governor Rocío Nahle confirmed the suspension at all educational levels in that state. In Jalisco, Governor Pablo Lemus said there will be no classes or work in the state and municipal public sector, although security and civil protection services will operate normally. The government of Campeche also suspended classes and activities in state offices. In contrast, Yucatán, Morelos and Sinaloa will keep school activities unchanged.
