Members of the Frente Nacional para el Rescate del Campo Mexicano threatened to block airports in Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey ahead of the 2026 World Cup opening.
Leader Eraclio Rodríguez warned that Mexico City International Airport will be paralyzed on the day of the tournament opening, set for June 11 at Estadio Ciudad de México. The group also plans to coordinate with teachers and truckers for joint blockades at the three Mexican host venues.
The farmers demand fair corn prices, currently set at 5,100 pesos per ton against a real value of 8,500 to 9,000 pesos. They also seek inclusion in drafting the regulations for the National Waters Law.
Rodríguez announced a march next Wednesday, May 20, ending at the Interior Ministry. President Claudia Sheinbaum has noted that public resources are not unlimited to meet all requests.
Mexico will host 13 of the 104 matches, with five in the capital, four in Monterrey and four in Guadalajara.
