A new day of simultaneous wildfires in Catalonia amid a heat wave led to the confinement of nearly 17,000 people on July 8, 2026. Fires declared in Gavà, Navarcles and Pla de Manlleu prompted protective measures that were mostly lifted by night.
A fire in Gavà, Barcelona, began around 13:34 and affected vehicles on Montserrat Roig Street before spreading to forest areas. Protecció Civil ordered the confinement of 6,000 people in urbanizations of Gavà, Sant Climent de Llobregat and areas of Viladecans, a measure lifted after four hours.
The Bomberos de la Generalitat deployed 29 ground units and seven aerial means in Gavà. In Navarcles 9,000 people were confined and in Pla de Manlleu 1,600, according to chief inspector David Borrell.
The Sentmenat fire, declared the previous day, had already burned more than 200 hectares and kept 300 people confined before the order was lifted in the afternoon.
