The Oral Criminal Court of Temuco handed down the sentence on Monday against Pelantaro Llaitul Pezoa, son of the CAM leader, for two arson attacks that occurred in 2022 in La Araucanía.
Pelantaro Llaitul Pezoa and four other members of the Coordinadora Arauco Malleco were convicted as authors of repeated arson, theft in concurrence with simple kidnapping, and theft. Prosecutor César Schibar detailed that Llaitul and Juan Carlos Mardones received sentences of more than 16 years of effective prison time.
The events took place on November 22, 2022. The group broke into the San Luis farm in Lautaro, set fire to trucks and forestry machinery, and held a worker for 30 minutes. They then attacked a forest camp, burned a truck and containers, and stole tools.
The court acquitted the accused of illegal possession of firearms and unjustified shots. The government acted as plaintiff through the Ministry of Security. Llaitul was detained the same day in Galvarino.
