The formalization of three ex-carabineros and 12 civilians accused of belonging to a criminal association in Curanilahue was extended until Monday, May 18. The defendants allegedly altered evidence at shooting sites and were part of “La Banda de los Moto”.
The three former Carabineros officers were arrested on Thursday the 14th at the fourth police station in Curanilahue, in the province of Arauco, Biobío region. According to regional prosecutor Marcela Cartagena, the group committed unjustified shootings, frustrated homicides and robberies with violence.
The Biobío zone command of Carabineros reported that internal affairs personnel linked the three officers from the Arauco Prefecture to alleged criminal acts. The defendants allegedly altered evidence at sites where public shootings occurred.
Security Minister Trinidad Steinert praised the institutional response. The charges include failure to report, obstruction of investigation, criminal association, misappropriation of state subsidies and repeated forgery of public instruments. Nine of the 15 detainees have already been formalized.
