Sony Pictures has signed filmmakers Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, directors of 2025's Final Destination: Bloodlines, to a first-look deal that includes them helming the long-in-development Metal Gear Solid movie adaptation. The duo's new company, Wonderlab, will develop the project along with others for Sony labels, as first reported by The Hollywood Reporter on April 9, 2026.
The deal revives the Metal Gear Solid adaptation of Hideo Kojima's stealth-action video game series, which has been in discussion for over a decade. Previous efforts included Jordan Vogt-Roberts attached as director since 2014 and Oscar Isaac eyed for Solid Snake as recently as 2022, though his involvement is unclear. Hideo Kojima's role in this version remains uncertain.
Lipovsky and Stein's Final Destination: Bloodlines earned $317 million worldwide on a $50 million budget. "Metal Gear Solid was nothing short of a groundbreaking cinematic masterpiece that forever revolutionized video games," the directors said in a statement. "We are thrilled and honored to bring Hideo Kojima’s iconic characters and unforgettable world to life."
Wonderlab's first-look agreement with Sony covers the Metal Gear Solid film via Columbia Pictures, an animated Venom movie, an original sci-fi project called The Earthling, and more. Producers Avi and Ari Arad, known for Iron Man and Venom, remain attached to Metal Gear Solid. No casting, timeline, or further production details have been announced.
