A 19-year-old man in Texas is facing capital murder charges after allegedly shooting his father, mother and grandmother in the head.
Gaurav Chopra stands accused of capital murder in the deaths of his father Sweeta Ram, 56, mother Kamlesh Rani, 46, and grandmother Minder Kaur, 73. He also faces an attempted capital murder charge for shooting at his brother.
Hidalgo County Sheriff J.E. "Eddie" Guerra said deputies responded shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday to a home in the 3700 block of Roosevelt Avenue in Alton. The 911 caller reported that Chopra had killed his family and tried to shoot him as well.
Chopra fled in a white Lexus, which he later crashed into two other cars before his arrest. Deputies recovered a 9mm gun from the vehicle believed to be the murder weapon. All three victims were found on the second floor with gunshot wounds to the head.
Ram owned a local motel and event center and was well respected in the community, according to Palmview Mayor Rick Villarreal. Investigators have not determined a motive. Chopra remains in the Hidalgo County Jail without bond and is a student at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
