Three people died and four others were wounded in a shooting Sunday evening at the Bite of Seattle food festival near the Space Needle. Police believe three suspects were involved, with one killed at the scene, a 15-year-old in custody, and a third still at large.
The gunfire erupted around 6 p.m. local time during the annual food festival at the Seattle Center, a popular tourist area. Officials said seven people were shot in total. Two men, ages 19 and 44, were pronounced dead at the scene, while a 56-year-old woman later died at Harborview Medical Center.
A 2-year-old boy, a 39-year-old woman, and a 23-year-old man were hospitalized in stable condition. A 40-year-old woman with minor injuries sought treatment later at another facility.
Seattle police described the incident as possibly gang related. Court documents indicate the 15-year-old and one deceased suspect exchanged fire with at least one unknown suspect. Officers confronted one shooter, limiting further casualties. Two guns were recovered.
The 15-year-old was booked on firearm and assault charges and waived an initial court appearance Monday. Authorities continue to search for the remaining suspect.
