President Trump visited the Blue Course at East Potomac Golf Links on Sunday and described the historic property as dilapidated and in poor condition. He said renovations will begin September 1 with the goal of creating one of the greatest golf courses in the world.
Trump made the comments in a Truth Social post after touring the century-old course with Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and golf-course architect Tom Fazio. He cited issues including falling tree branches, a non-functional sprinkler system, dead grass, and unplayable greens.
The National Park Service is overseeing the project after assuming control of the site late last year. Plans include redesigning the Walter Travis layout and removing nine holes, prompting concerns from local golfers about access and fees.
The DC Preservation League filed a lawsuit in February and an emergency motion in May to halt major work without court approval. A hearing on the motion is scheduled for July 2, and the group filed additional historic preservation documents on Monday.
Rebecca Miller, the league's executive director, expressed hope for an injunction and called for changes that minimize impact on the historic character of the course.
