VA Syd is urging central Malmö residents to flush toilets less, avoid laundry and dishwashing, and shower shorter or at friends' places outside the area. The reason is a leak in a major sewer line requiring repairs. Wastewater will be discharged into Malmö canal from May 5 at 19:00 to May 7 at 00:00.
One of Malmö's major sewer lines has suffered an acute leak. To repair the leak, VA Syd will discharge untreated wastewater into the canal from Turbinen pump station. They will deploy booms to collect as much of the water as possible, while the circulation pump is shut off.
The appeal targets central Malmö residents from Tuesday, May 5 at 19:00 to Thursday, May 7 at 00:00. Residents are urged to flush toilets as little as possible, avoid machine washing and dishwashing, and shower at acquaintances outside the city or not at all.
"We are very grateful for all efforts you can contribute, big or small. Everything counts," says Liselotte Stålhandske at VA Syd in a press release.
This may cause sewage smells near Turbinen, Mariedalsvägen, and Malmöhusvägen. VA Syd warns everyone to avoid contact with the canal water.
