A survey shows 45.7% of Venezuelans prioritize electing a new president over reconstruction after last week's earthquakes.
Interim President Delcy Rodríguez's disapproval rating reached 63.3% in June, up five points from May, according to an AtlasIntel poll for Bloomberg News conducted between June 26 and 30. Some 52.4% of respondents rated the government's response to the two earthquakes as very deficient.
Authorities reported nearly 2,600 dead and 12,400 injured, while an opposition count registers more than 38,000 missing. Rodríguez said accounts of a slow response were manipulated by coordinated information campaigns.
Some 45.7% of those surveyed said holding new elections is more urgent than reconstruction, which 32.6% prioritized. Opposition leader María Corina Machado maintains a 53% positive image among respondents.
