Real Madrid are increasingly confident that Vinicius Junior will stay at the club this summer despite interest from Arsenal. The Brazilian forward has 11 months left on his contract.
Reports indicate that new head coach José Mourinho is determined to keep the 26-year-old at the Santiago Bernabéu. Vinicius has made more than 375 appearances for the club since joining from Flamengo in 2018, winning three La Liga titles and two Champions League crowns.
Negotiations for a new contract have not yet produced an agreement. The player is seeking a salary higher than that of Kylian Mbappé, Real Madrid’s highest-paid player. He has reportedly stayed away from first-team training while his future remains unresolved.
Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Santiago Cañizares has criticised the club’s handling of the situation. He told Cadena COPE that failing to secure a new deal would represent “unforgivable mismanagement” and that the club has an obligation to sell if no agreement exists.
Madrid are also pursuing RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande with offers reported to have reached £98 million. The club remains confident of reaching a new agreement with Vinicius.
