Washington and Lee equestrian team places third at Hollins IHSA show

The Washington and Lee University equestrian team finished third at the Hollins IHSA show, earning 25 points. This result keeps the Generals in third place in the regional standings, 10 points ahead of Hollins and 10 points behind Virginia Tech with one regular-season show remaining.

At the Hollins IHSA show in Hollins, Virginia, the Washington and Lee University equestrian team secured a third-place finish on Sunday, totaling 25 points after the drop. The competition featured strong performances across various classes, contributing to the team's consistent regional positioning.

The Generals demonstrated dominance in the Introductory class, where Kate Martin took first place and Henry McClure earned second. In the Intermediate Flat section, Samantha Bourque placed third, qualifying her for Regionals in that class, while Lydia Bowersox added a second-place finish. Ryon Sinclair contributed a second-place ride in Limit Fences, and Brooke Capuzzi placed second in Pre-Novice.

Other notable individual results included Elisabeth Marek's second in Open Flat and fourth in Open Fences, as well as Tytus Boston's first in Pre-Novice. In the Limit Flat sections, Ella Hudson and Eva Lunn both finished second in their respective groups.

Team standings at the event were led by the University of Lynchburg with 44 points, followed by James Madison University with 33. Washington and Lee edged out Virginia Tech by one point for third, with Hollins fifth at 18 points. Bridgewater College, University of Virginia, Ferrum College, and Roanoke College rounded out the field.

To date, regional qualifiers from Washington and Lee include Elisabeth Marek in Open Flat, Samantha Bourque in Intermediate Flat, Lydia Bowersox in Limit Fences, and Irene Tsengas in Novice.

The team is set to compete next on February 28 at the Virginia Tech Winter Blues IHSA Show in Blacksburg, Virginia, starting at 10 a.m. at the Smithfield Horse Center.
