A jury found Kanye West, now known as Ye, and his companies liable for sampling an unreleased demo track in an early version of his song Hurricane.
The verdict came Tuesday afternoon in a case brought by Artists Revenue Advocates on behalf of four musicians who created the beat titled MSD PT2 in March 2018. Ye was held personally liable for $176,153, with Yeezy LLC owing the same amount. His retail companies Yeezy Supply and Mascotte Holdings were ordered to pay $41,625 and $44,627 respectively.
