Anc nec meets to finalize ngc preparations

The African National Congress's National Executive Committee is convening in Boksburg on Monday for a key meeting. The session will focus on preparations for the upcoming 5th National General Council at Nasrec Expo Centre. It comes amid efforts to address alliance dynamics following a failed outreach to the South African Communist Party.

The African National Congress (ANC) has scheduled a Special National Executive Council (NEC) meeting for Monday in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg. This one-day gathering aims to finalize preparations for the party's 5th National General Council (NGC), set to occur from the following Monday to Friday at the Nasrec Expo Centre.

Among the agenda items, the NEC will review the implementation of resolutions from the previous conference. The party has instructed all regional structures to complete their conferences ahead of the NGC, with Johannesburg and Tshwane regions planning theirs from Wednesday to Friday.

The meeting also addresses broader challenges within the tripartite alliance. A recent bilateral effort to persuade the South African Communist Party (SACP) against contesting future elections independently did not succeed. ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula noted that the party must now decide on next steps if common ground cannot be found.

This NEC session underscores the ANC's focus on organizational readiness and alliance cohesion as it navigates internal and political landscapes ahead of key events.
