Battlefield 6's developer has delayed the game's second season to February 17, 2026, citing community feedback and a need for more polish. To keep players engaged, an extension to season 1 will arrive on January 20, adding new challenges, a bonus path, and double XP events. This move follows mixed reception to the initial post-launch content amid ongoing technical issues.
Battlefield 6 launched strongly in October 2025, even outselling Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 in the US through November. However, season 1's content rollout faced criticism, particularly after the third phase update before the winter holidays introduced gameplay issues that postponed a $1 million Redsec tournament. Community sentiment has soured, with players vocal about hit registration problems and demands for larger maps, despite season 1 already adding two new ones.
On January 13, 2026, Battlefield Studios announced the delay of season 2 from its original January 20 start to February 17. "During our ongoing development, we’ve continued to review community feedback and, in order to keep our promise, determined that our best path forward is to extend Season 1 and give ourselves extra time to further polish and refine Season 2," the developer stated in a blog post.
The season 1 extension update arrives on January 20, extending the battle pass completion time by nearly a month. It includes new weekly challenges and the Frostfire bonus path, launching January 27. This path offers free rewards like a hardware XP boost, vehicle skin, and player-card items, while premium pass owners get a weapon package, career XP boost, and extra cosmetics. Unlike prior bonus paths, progress relies solely on the new weekly challenges, which can be tackled alongside the main battle pass.
Additional features include daily login rewards, several double XP weekends, and a Valentine's Day event. Battlefield Studios plans to use Battlefield Labs for public previews of future updates. "Both the Season 1 extension and the use of Battlefield Labs will set the foundation for new and exciting content throughout our live seasons, including what will come in Season 2," the team said. More details on season 2, expected to include new maps, guns, and modes, will emerge next month.
The delay coincides with the recent passing of Vince Zampella, who led Battlefield 6's development. With competitors like Call of Duty shifting to ongoing platforms and Arc Raiders gaining traction, Battlefield Studios aims to retain its player base through these enhancements.
